About  us

Cath Henshall is the proprietor of HorseLogic and is one of very few equitation scientists in the world with a detailed knowledge of the neuroscience that is relevant to horses and how to apply this knowledge to improve horse training and welfare.  Cath recently completed a PhD investigating the effects of stress and physical exercise on what horses learn and remember, conducting ground breaking experiments that offered up new knowledge to help horses and their owners.  HorseLogic has been created to share this unique knowledge and experience to help owners and their horses.
Prior to undertaking her PhD, Cath ran the successful Hillydale Equitation Science business, helping several hundred horses find new homes as well as working with horse owners to improve their training and relationships with their horses, applying a science based framework to inform all aspects of horse training and management.

Cath also has extensive experience teaching in the vocational TAFE and more recently university systems (Charles Sturt University and Western Sydney University) on a range of topics including horse cognition, learning behaviour and welfare, pasture management for horses and animal welfare generally.  Cath has also worked in animal welfare law enforcement and with various animal industry bodies to improve animal welfare policies and procedures.  Cath has recently been working at Charles Sturt University to train staff in how to apply evidence based, neuroscience informed foal training to ensure the university bred foals get the best start in life.
